This work was inspired by the decommissioned cathedral connected to the Hotel Oasi Neumann in Cortona, Italy. The hotel itself is also a former monastery, with centuries of history permeating every corner of the building. The management of the hotel has maintained the old cathedral as best as possible considering it’s no longer in use, and they invited us to take a tour of it. I was struck by the acoustics, and the palpable connection to so many years of people coming there for their spiritual needs. It’s a beautiful space, and I hope that someday I can bring this piece back to them and perform it there.
